Equipment

  • 2 sandwich-size Ziploc bags
  • 1 gallon-size Ziploc bag
  • Thick winter gloves or a pair of oven mitts (you'll need this when shaking the bag)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup any dairy-free milk we used almond milk
  • 1 tablespoon coconut sugar you can add more sugar if you desire more sweetness
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa powder (this is optional and used to make chocolate ice cream)
  • 4 fresh strawberries mashed (this is optional and used to make strawberry ice cream)
  • 4 cups ice
  • cup kosher salt

Instructions

  • Pour your dairy-free milk, coconut sugar, vanilla extract, and cocoa powder or strawberries (optional) into one of your sandwich-size Ziploc bags. Make sure you seal the bag completely and that there is no air in the bag.
  • Next, place that bag into the other sandwich-size Ziploc bag. This will ensure the ice cream contents don’t leak into the bigger bag later.
  • Next, place 2 cups of ice into the gallon-size Ziploc bag and pour ½ of the kosher salt on top of the ice. Place the ice cream bag inside the bigger bag. Pour the rest of the ice and the remaining salt on top. Seal the big bag well!!
  • Don’t forget to put on your gloves or mitts to ensure your hands don’t freeze (the salt makes the ice colder).
  • Shake the entire bag for approximately 5-10 minutes or until you can see that the ice cream mixture is thickening.
  • Open the bags and spoon the ice cream into a dessert cup.
  • Add your favorite toppings and enjoy your homemade ice cream!! (NOTE: the ice cream will be a soft-serve consistency)

Notes

SUBSTITUTIONS
